ArifPay Announces Integration with EthSwitch. ArifPay, a payment system operator (PSO) has announced its integration with Ethswitch, the national switch operator. ArifPay is the first private PSO to be licensed by the NBE and to join the switch.

With over 30 million debit cards in circulation, Ethiopia currently records 2.4 million POS transactions, of which only 360,000 are processed through Ethswitch’s interoperability infrastructure.

Another challenge in the Ethiopian financial landscape is the limited number of POS machines and transactions. There are only 11,000 POS machines in Ethiopia, while in contrast, there are 50,000 in Kenya. ArifPay’s ArifPos addresses this issue by offering a more affordable and interoperable solution that supports e-receipts and caters to various businesses, including ride-hailing services, restaurants, retailers and hotels. The first PSO to be licensed, Arif Pay is licensed as a point of sale (POS) and payment gateway operator.
